Tier 2 · System Context · Systematic Fault Isolation

Divide, and conquer.

A system doesn't tell you what's wrong — it tells you what it's doing. A subscriber reads "Site Trunking," a BER meter climbs, an alarm blinks. Your job is to turn symptoms into a diagnosis with a method: observe, gather targeted evidence, narrow the field, then fix the root cause — not the symptom. Inject a fault and work it.

Fault behaviors modeled on verified LMR/ASTRO 25 maintenance realities (site trunking on backhaul loss, simulcast sync/ISI, feedline VSWR desense). System Release 2024.1 baseline. Symptoms and tool readings are illustrative teaching values, not a live system. Teaches the method, not a specific system's alarms.

The method

Don't guess — divide and conquer:
  1. Read the symptoms the system is already giving you.
  2. Form a hypothesis about which segment is implicated.
  3. Run one targeted tool to confirm or rule it out.
  4. Fix the root cause — then verify the symptom clears.
